J.P. Menezes Falcão takes Interlegal to FICAC’S Congress

J.P. Menezes de Falcão, partner of MF&AC - Lawyers and President of Interlegal, attended the FICAC’s (World Federation of Consuls) 12th World Congress of Consuls held in Brussels, Belgium.

With the theme “Grand Opportunities in the New Globalized World”, the event, which took place on 4-6 October 2018, took place in several famous locations around the city, such as: the town hall; the plenary room of the Belgian Senate, at the Palace of Nations; the Cercle Royal Gaulois Artistique et Littéraire; and the Egmont Palace.

Representing Interlegal, J.P. Menezes Falcão seized the opportunity to introduce the association, as well as to highlight the benefits of the cooperation between consuls and lawyers to free international trade. During his brief speech, the President of Interlegal recalled the important role of free international trade in maintaining peace, in economic and social progress, and to the prosperity or all nations. On the other hand, J.P. Menezes de Falcão also addressed the recent wave of protectionism, which threatens free international trade, stressing that "... consuls and lawyers should now act not only as, respectively, facilitators and legal counsels of free international trade, but also as its advocates.".

It should be noted that in May 2016, Interlegal and FICAC signed a partnership agreement in order to jointly achieve their respective goal through mutual cooperation. FICAC, also known as the World Federation of Consuls, was founded in Copenhagen on October 2nd, 1982, and its prime aim is establishing professional bonds among consuls around the world.
